WE ARE MOVING TO KENYA IN AUGUST!

To allow Charlie to attend the school he needs at this point, we are moving to Kenya for one year. We’ll continue doing the Unit Leader job for Namibia, handle Angola, work on AfriGO magazine and related projects, and also help at Rift Valley Academy. Travel to Namibia will be on school breaks throughout the year. Please pray for us as we have a crazy schedule over the next month, still need to raise missing support, and try to figure out how to transport a Great Dane from Namibia to Kenya (our dog Pepper).
That was the blurt-it-out version: read below for some details.

We are MOVING FORWARD in different direction that we anticipated this year.

News from Namibia

The Hazels, working up in Bushmanland, continue to press on with creating stories for the disciples who want to follow Jesus more closely. The Bible Society of Namibia has become interested in working together, wonderful news!

The Grahams have an appointment with US immigration on July 7th to pursue citizenship for their four new Namibian kids. Please pray for success!

Some details on our move: Some of you know that Charlie has had a rough year and will not be able to attend Rift Valley Academy in Kenya as a boarding student. Since school in Namibia is no longer an option (he would lose yet another year of school due to differences in calendar), and schooling online was a disaster last year, we feel at this point our only option is to move to RVA with Charlie, where Kevin will work and Charlie will attend as a day student.

Although it was hard for us to break the news to our personnel in Namibia, they are gracious and supportive of our need to do this to ensure a better way forward for Charlie. Our plan is to continue as Unit Leaders for Namibia, traveling back there several times next year to check in on our people and keep connections. Cami will handle the day-to-day work for Namibia and Angola, while continuing to work on AfriGO, while Kevin will work for the school in some vitally-needed roles, which is required to allow us to live there. Housing will be provided on campus.

RVA school staff are all volunteer, so we will continue on our present support situation as we serve there. RVA provides a good education for children of missionaries serving all over Africa, most on the very frontlines of ministry in villages, towns and closed countries. Without the school, many of these ministries would not be possible, especially for families with older children. Our Toby went through 4 years of RVA and can’t say enough good about it – it provides a good education while preparing third culture kids to return to their passport countries. We are looking forward to supporting this valuable ministry and doing our part to support students through regular weekly small groups and other interactions. Everyone who lives at RVA is put into service with the kids!

On August 9th, Kevin will be at RVA for staff orientation. Cami and Charlie will head first to Namibia, where they’ll gather some of our belongings, collect the pets, and visit with our personnel, then come to Kenya for start of school at the end of August. Toby will head back to college for the fall, after first spending 6 weeks with Cami’s parents and sister, where he will be able to work and earn for college.

At the end of this week, we move out of the house where we’ve stayed for 8 months, so Cami is beginning to “make the piles”, a familiar sign of moving on.

Next week starts the big Black Rock Missions Conference, which we’ll be participating in all week, and then Kevin and Cami start a 2-week tour of the southeast to see friends and supporters, as well as visit with Namibia team members Steve and Karrie Graham, who are on home assignment working on getting US citizenship for 4 of their adopted Namibian kids.

A lot is going on! The latest issue AfriGO is out, website work for that publication continues, and both of the boys are being transported back and forth to local jobs they’ve been able to get. We are so grateful that we get to go back to Africa, even as the pandemic there continues to ramp up (and worse this time). We are all vaccinated, so hopefully borders will be more open to us as we travel.

-Would you pray for us in this next month as we strive to follow God’s leading day by day to handle the many, many details of this move?

-Pray for our support level, which is still lower than it needs to be to allow us to return. We don’t want to be standing, suitcases in hand, come August, unable to go. God knows this.

-Pray for arrangements to bring our pets. Charlie’s beloved cat will definitely come. Cami is running into some obstacles in getting transport for our 125 pound Great Dane. We are often called to sacrifice for this life that we lead. She is asking God to allow her to have her dog, but we are listening for His answer.

We are making plans for a visit down through the Southeast at the end of July - we hope to see many of you!

Thanks for hanging in with us in this journey - God is so good to us. We covet your prayers for the month ahead.
Kevin & Cami
