We Have a Plan!
Work in Namibia goes on!
We have had a tight lockdown now since May but restrictions are loosening as cases begin to decline. As international flights have opened it is hoped the economy can begin to recover. Kevin was able to preach via live stream a few weeks back and continues with helping members and local pastors.
PEACE Plan Namibia is picking up. It was decided that they will focus on small group training and house church training. It has been exciting to see national initiative take off and reaching out to new church leaders and pastors. The steering committee will be doing more traveling, inviting pastors and churches as restrictions lessen and they hope to do a larger training in Windhoek in February.
Our AIM members have remained in place during the state of emergency serving however they can. Up in Tsumkwe, among the San, Jeremy and Claudia have, while enjoying the oral Bible story training and taking it out into the villages have also continued language learning and teaching sanitation and hygiene as well as small plot arid gardening. In Otjiwarongo, the Grahams are doing well in reaching out to vulnerable youth and high school students who have been left grasping to get through this time of no classes. We do ask you to start to pray for Graham’s naturalization process for the four little kids they have adopted (done in Namibia, USA holding things up due to changes in adoption laws). We continue to pray they can be a light in such difficult times.
Kevin and Ben are booked on a flight out of Namibia for October 2nd and will spend some time in Connecticut with his parents before flying down to Tulsa to meet Cami, visit Toby and then travel over to Tennessee where we will stay for some weeks. We will have a lot to talk about and are looking forward to the planned time of refreshment and reconnection. We are thankful that our house in Windhoek will be occupied by 3 reliable young women and one of them loves pets. Thanks for praying!
I, Cami had a very productive month of work with AfriGO. It has been lonely at times without Kevin and Ben, and I am thankful that the people i stayed with were very kind. There was time for walking outside in the beautiful nearby park, and thinking through some things. I enjoyed getting caught up on some long-delayed projects and interviewing lots of African missionaries in various time zones. The very first Swahili translation of AfriGO was finished this month and has been posted online here – I of course did not do the translation but assisted the team wherever necessary. Another person has come on board to assist with the social media side and the new issue of AfriGO is due out next week, which you will find on the Facebook page. Next week I will fly to North Carolina, SIM’s HQ, to have several days with the Senior Editor and there will be lots of time for discussions and planning. Meanwhile I have moved to another host home 30 minutes from Toby, and warmly welcomed there. It will be home base until Kevin and Ben arrive.
Toby is settling in wonderfully at JBU – thank you for praying!! He likes his roommate, has begun to find friends, and is adapting well to an environment remarkably similar to RVA. Cami was nearby until yesterday and was happy to help at the weekly MK dinner put on by the Missionaries in Residence from Niger. JBU has put in protocols to prevent the spread of Covid and until now have had very few cases! We pray that face-to-face learning can continue all year. Please continue to pray for Toby as he works and studies and learns about America first-hand.
Please pray for Kevin – he has a LONG list of things to do before leaving. Pray for peace for him and for wisdom in planning. Some of them are quite complicated including property management and renewal of one of our members’ Work Permits. Please pray that the required negative Covid test before departure will be negative and there will be no problems in travel, they are overnighting in Ethiopia and then onward to NYC.
Please pray for Ben as he has exams at the end of September to finish his 8th grade school year. It has been an extremely hard time for Ben. Please also pray for activities and friends for Ben during our time in Tennessee . . . we are concerned for him after a difficult year and would like to see him doing some active things that he will enjoy.
