We’re OK

Wow!
So the phrase, “I didn’t see this coming” seems apropos right now.
Since we wrote our last letter to you all, the world has been turned upside down.  More on that at the bottom of the letter, along with links to our new personal website, and the latest issue of AfriGO.    We highlight a few things we are praising our Father for….
  1. Jeremy and Claudia Hazel returned to Namibia for long term service among the San in January and are settled among the Bushmen amid warm welcome. Pray for them as they look for ‘low hanging ministry fruit” while at the same time set long term goals!  Jeremy went to the health officials there a few days ago to find out how to help and they said “What is Coronavirus?”  They’d never heard of it.  Pray for them as they try to help educate this vulnerable community.
  2. Every 2 years AIM has our ‘Koinonia’ meetings of all AIM leadership in Kenya in February. This year was especially good with each morning focusing on listening to and the work of the Holy Spirit. Cami was also able to attend with a last minute invite to present AFRIGO and Angola vision.
  3. After Koinonia I (Kevin) was able to take a few days to process things and visit Toby at RVA as well as connect with friends/colleagues (from Sudan and Kenya). What an encouragement and refreshing time it was.
  4. March has been full of visitors! Robert came from Tennessee to do more training with local church leaders with PEACE Plan (I am part of the Nat. Steering Committee) and those meetings went very well. And unexpectedly Cami connected with a Connecticut team out doing training. Cami was her usual graceful, helpful self and they appreciated it—and we were happy to help.
  5. Then the Wildgens, Julianne and Eric came for a ‘final check’ before committing to fulltime service at the Namibia Evangelical Seminary. With a LOT of joy I can say it went very well and they have committed to 3 years, hopefully to return in early August 2020.
Robert as well took an emergency ticket change and flew home early and the Wildgens should be arriving today to Atlanta, and then onward to Minnesota to reunite with their 4 kids!
RVA closed last week and we had some drama with getting Toby home after Namibia identified their first two cases and closed all flights from Ethiopia (the hub Toby was to come through).  We got him on to a ticket via Johannesburg and prayed especially hard after we heard he had sore throat and headache, worried he’d be stuck in South Africa.  Imagine our relief when he entered Namibia with no problems.  RVA will start online classes end of April, but we don’t know yet if he will be able to return for 3rd term and graduation in July.  Ben’s school has closed for 30 days and he has a few assignments online.  It is a good opportunity for him to get caught up in his German class!!
‘What is going on in Namibia?’….hmmm. Basic stuff. There is a partial ban on travel—no in/out from Qatar/Ethiopia/Germany. Social distancing a must, travel is discouraged, and the government seems to be handling it fairly well. Only 3 cases so far (foreigners who are recovering well in isolation).  We’ll speak more about this on Facebook and the blog.
‘What is next?’ working from home, social distancing, speaking peace and surety into the lives of our team and those around us as we go through this crazy time! And trusting in Gods unswerving faithfulness, presence and joy even amidst hardship, uncertainty and strange times. Covid-19 has not hit Africa hard yet, and we pray that it will not.  Meanwhile, we’ll be updating our website blog and Facebook page more often.  Kevin & Cami
