One goes south, the other north

AfriGO is a project of SIM and recently SIM had an African mobilization conference in Capetown, South Africa.  Cami was lucky enough to go to represent AfriGO, and spent 22 hours on the bus to get there!  With budget constraints, it was the best option.
What a great week – such a dream to see many African missionaries and leaders, and be with four others from AIM who also attended.  It was inspiring to hear success stories of how missionaries are being sent out, and be part of discussions of ideas to get more churches inspired, and how to better raise financial support.
The trip home was 30 hours after rains washed out a road near the border, but it was worth it.  Here she is with her roommate, Harriet Ngugi, who together with her husband started an African missions agency in Kenya.

27 years later, it’s like a whole new country

3 days after Cami returned (with a bad flu), Kevin took off for Angola for his first visit since 1996!   He spent last week at the annual spiritual retreat for many of the missionaries working in the south, where he had great opportunities to get to know many of them and their ministries.  This week, he’s in the city of Lubango to network and investigate, and next week he’ll be in Huambo, the future posting of our new Brazilian missionaries who are coming in September!

Last time we were in Angola, the war was still going on and things were broken down and difficult.  It’s really different now, though the needs on many fronts are indeed desperate.  He’s pleased to see his Portuguese returning and is enjoying his time there.  Please pray for a visit which is full of relationships established, a good footing for our new missionaries, and safety.  His luggage went missing on the direct flight from Windhoek to the capitol, and he finally got it back a full week later!
