Strange Times
We all have been hoping and praying our lives would return to normal…yet they haven’t. Talk of a ‘new normal’ and advice to ‘look for opportunities’ is challenging at best and stressful and possibly debilitating for some. We, here in Namibia have tried to make use of the time and gotten involved in a local charity, assisting in teaching small group church methods all the while carrying on as best we could with normal tasks (and for Kevin, added tasks while Cami is away). As our situations continue to morph and force us to adapt, I know we all have had moments of sadness and despair. As Ben and I watched another great sermon from Andy Stanley Sunday, we were challenged with the question, “How would someone in your circumstances respond if they were confident God was with them?” He makes stark difference between reacting (often kneejerk and emotional) to a situation and responding (thoughtful, prayerful and measured)….all the while anchoring ourselves in the fact that as His beloved, God is with us. It was a powerful reminder. (You can find it online -the Andy Stanley “Better For It” series).
On to the news:
About a month ago, Cami and Toby were able to get on the only flight out of Namibia during the month of July. They quarantined in Connecticut, then spent 6 days on the road to Arkansas with a few visits and much provision from our Father for every little thing needed. Toby began classes at John Brown University today and Cami remains nearby until mid-September to make sure he settles in well.
Here in Namibia, the Covid numbers have been going up and the lockdown has been tightened a great deal. We are no longer able to travel to visit our personnel and there are no meetings of more than 10 people allowed. Borders are still shut, and we hope they will re-open mid-September.
It looks like it will be difficult for Cami to return to Namibia in September and because of this and other factors, we are re-evaluating a November return for furlough and instead trying to find a flight for Ben and I to the USA in October. Will you pray with us as we consider all the details that this change will entail? We’ll also need a short-term renter for our house who will love our pets!
Please pray also for Ben as his school year will be finishing up in early October. He has some major exams and is struggling to focus. Pray for both him and I as we try to get him ready. It has been 4 months so far of distance learning with his local school and it’s been a rough road in so many ways.
And Cami and I would appreciate your prayers as we are separated by distance and a 7-hour time difference. And it looks like a two-month separation will stretch into three months while we miss our 28th anniversary, my 51st birthday and her 50th birthday. Pray that God will bring people into our lives to support and encourage us as we are apart.
Our members in Namibia have continue with ministry, as have we. The Grahams are hard at work on designing a religious and moral education curriculum for the local schools, along with other things, and the Hazels are working on discipling young believers and reaching out to their community. I continue to try to promote the Peace Plan in Windhoek, and Cami is still working online on AfriGO magazine. There are restrictions with covid on various levels, so we appreciate your prayers for perseverance and direction during these days.
Thank you so much to all who support and pray for us – we have felt the love!
Kevin and Cami
